On 6 February 2018, the latest edition of Milano Unica was inaugurated in a very gray Milan, with the presentation of the trends for Spring/Summer 2019.
The slogan of the event is “SAVE THE PLANET”, a warning to all those who work in the fashion industry and who could make their own contribution to the protection of the environment.
The guiding thread of the trends for Spring/Summer 2019 is Sustainability:
“we must look to the future by paying attention to the surrounding environment, re-establishing a new harmony with nature …”
The three themes of Milano Unica for Spring/Summer 2019, Water, Air and Earth, represent the fundamental elements from which to start again to build a new balance between man and the planet Earth.
How can you be sustainable in the fashion industry?
A non-simple question that finds one of the possible answers right inside the event, in the new section dedicated to Sustainability.
The trend area for this edition has reserved a space completely dedicated to “sustainable” fabrics and accessories divided into 9 categories:
Biological Materials: fabrics and accessories produced with natural materials from organic farming.
Bio-based materials: fabrics and accessories produced with bio-based and sustainable polymers.
Recycled materials: fabrics and accessories produced with fibers and recycled materials, pre or post-consumer or regenerated.
Other low impact materials: fabrics and accessories produced with fibers and materials with particular characteristics of sustainability or sustainable crops.
Cruelty-free fibers: fabrics and accessories produced with materials collected without the use of cruel practices towards animals.
Responsibly managed forest materials: fabrics and accessories made from fibers and other materials from responsibly managed forests.
Without chemicals: products and accessories produced without the use of hazardous chemicals.
Waterproof without PFC: water repellent fabrics and accessories produced with treatments that don’t use PFC.
Sustainable business management system: materials produced by companies with sustainability management systems.

Sustainability is a source of inspiration for new trends and is at the heart of the Trend Area.
The videos projected on the maxi screens and the black color that is the background to the entire exhibition, introduce the visitor in the path of new trends.
What will be the colors for the Spring/Summer 2019 season?
The colors presented at Milano Unica are on the whole average saturated with a degree of homogeneous brightness. Warmer colors alternate with cooler and dusty shades.
The color palette consists of 18 colors enclosed in the following three trends:
