Dialogare con il Colore: Fifth Edition

Dialogare con il Colore 5 event, held at La Triennale di Milano, was an important opportunity of exchange of views and sharing about topic of color that involved professionals from 15 different Countries.
The annual event, now in its fifth edition, thanks to the collaboration between the Italian association COLOR COLORIS Italian Color Insight and the international committee INTERCOLOR, saw color as a common thread and an element of union among different cultures.

It was an interesting and stimulating meeting, in which the involved Countries through their representatives, told and shown exciting and engaging films.

The virtual journey, through distant places, has been divided into three Panels:

PANEL 1: CHINA, JAPAN, SOUTH-KOREA, THAILAND, TURKEY

The first Panel was introduced by the film of China in which the color becomes “Branding”, through the sharing and the widespread use of technology. Color is local, urban.

Japan has in turn proposed an optimistic view of technology, able to create ephemeral phenomena, through the union with art. Quoting the British scientist Hawking, there is not much time left to save the Earth and consequently humanity. Colors become universal.

South-Korea has focused on the theme of DILEMMA: from the choice between one or more alternatives in a difficult situation, to the fear that technology can take over man, to the need to find the most appropriate solution to achieve what you want with courage.

Thailand has formulated a vision in which tradition and innovation flow into free and open creativity. Light, movement, matter can generate a synergy between Art and Science.

Turkey has transmitted a feeling of isolation through his film, where color is canceled and the space becomes monochromatic.

The Color takes on a Local character and at the same time Global, is inspired by Tradition and uses Innovation, aiming at the fusion between Art and Technology.

PANEL 2: FRANCE, ITALY, SPAIN, PORTUGAL, SWITZERLAND

The second Panel focused on the theme of Sustainability, an anticipated topic during the interview with Heleen van Gent, Creative Director AkzoNobel Global Aesthetic Center.

France has highlighted the inebriating sensory experience through “chromatic”, “elementary” and “frivolous” fragrances. On the one hand there is nature, from which inspiration is drawn to produce perfumed essences, on the other the reference to the world of luxury enclosed in the name of a famous French brand.

Italy has presented an idea of sustainability oriented to integrating environmental protection with a more properly industrialized reality, through the efficient management of resources, avoiding waste and preserving the quality of products.

Spain has instead exasperated the representation of a Generation of Desire, in which the human being is overwhelmed by the desire to possess objects. A seductive and attractive red becomes an expression of desire, while the continuous search for beauty and perfection leads humanity to the conquest of eternal youth.

Through his video, Portugal has denounced the devastation and destruction of planet Earth by human hands. Nature rebels through climate change, frequent and violent hurricanes, terrestrial overheating, melting glaciers, desertification. Pollution of the air, rivers and seas is destroying the environment in which we live. Man must try to establish a new balance with nature: looking at the past, at his origins, returning to simple and genuine things, will they save us from a destiny that seems to be traced?

Switzerland has addressed the issue of sustainability by dwelling on an important phase in the recycling process in which there is a point that becomes completely dark, where it is no longer possible to color or whiten the material. Worrying about sustainability means opening the Pandora’s box.

Preserving the colors of tradition and giving greater livability in the metropolis can make people happier. Knowledge allows us to achieve an awareness in the use of colors to be able to combine Sustainability and Aesthetics.

PANEL 3: DENMARK, FINLAND, GERMANY, U.K., U.S.A.

The third Panel was a moment of synthesis and reflection on all the issues addressed.

Denmark presented a video in which the use of color in the city, on the walls surrounding the construction sites of a new subway line in Copenhagen, is the result of work that involves the community. Positivity and creativity come together by artists.

Finland in an abstract way has proposed a vision of the future in which the institutional Blue requires a new approach through the intervention of young artists.

Germany has instead declared the intent of Rethinking in Green. Green, the color par excellence of nature, has contaminated industrial products: it is omnipresent, omnipotent, supernatural. Our ecosystem is green but it is not easy to be Green.

The United Kingdom reported the filmed and shared experience on social media of the phenomenon that occurred on October 16, 2017, when the sky and the sun were dyed Red. An apocalyptic landscape that has had a strong emotional impact among the British people, amplified by immediate communication thanks to the use of technology.

U.S.A., at the conclusion of the last Panel, have foreseen a future full of hope entrusted to the new generations: the dark cynicism leaves space for a bright optimism.

The event ended with a positive message and the dialogue on the colors of the future to be continued…
